With holiday travel approaching, local restaurants, attractions, and recreation businesses have an opportunity to give visitors more reasons to explore south of I-20.
Georgia’s tourism industry just set another record.
According to figures announced September 30 by the Georgia Department of Economic Development, 175.6 million people visited Georgia in 2025, spending $46.2 billion at hotels, restaurants, transportation businesses, attractions, and other establishments.
That’s the fourth consecutive year Georgia has broken its tourism record.
And it raises an important question for South Fulton:
How do we turn more of those visitors into customers for businesses in our own backyard?
South Fulton sits alongside one of the world’s best-known travel gateways: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
But getting travelers into the region isn’t the same as giving them a reason to stop, explore, eat, shop, or return.
A visitor staying near the airport might be looking for somewhere to enjoy dinner beyond the hotel. A family visiting relatives for the holidays might want an afternoon activity. A business traveler with a few free hours might be interested in a local restaurant, cultural experience, or outdoor attraction.
Those are opportunities for South Fulton businesses to offer more than a product or service.
They’re opportunities to create an experience worth leaving the hotel for.
1. Turn a meal into an outing.
Restaurants, cafés, and food businesses can create holiday tasting menus, chef-led experiences, themed brunches, or food-and-entertainment nights. Give visitors a specific reason to choose your location instead of settling for the closest familiar chain.
2. Make it easy to explore more than one stop.
A restaurant, boutique, and nearby attraction could create a simple afternoon itinerary. Think lunch, shopping, and something fun to do—with each business helping visitors discover the others.
3. Give travelers something they can book before they arrive.
Recreation and entertainment businesses can package guided activities, group experiences, holiday outings, or beginner-friendly sessions with clear prices, times, and booking instructions.
4. Make your business easy for visitors to find.
Check your Google Business Profile, website, holiday hours, photos, directions, and reservation links. Someone unfamiliar with South Fulton should be able to understand what you offer and plan a visit without calling three times for details.
5. Work with businesses already serving travelers.
Hotels, event venues, transportation providers, and local hosts may be able to point guests toward nearby experiences. A simple visitor-friendly description, current menu, or one-page activity guide can make your business easier to recommend.
Georgia’s tourism numbers show how much visitors spend statewide. They don’t tell us how much of that spending reaches South Fulton specifically.
But they do point to an opportunity worth pursuing.
Our region has restaurants, entertainment, outdoor recreation, arts, culture, and businesses with stories worth discovering. The next step is making those experiences easier to find, easier to share, and easier to enjoy together.
As the holiday season approaches, here’s a question for every food, beverage, hospitality, and recreation business:
If a visitor had four free hours near the airport, what would you invite them to experience in South Fulton?
That’s a question worth answering—and an opportunity worth building around.
